What a pleasure to discover this oasis of reliable quality with labeled prices! Bought a Roman glass pendant and matching earrings, both in modern settings, for my daughter. Plan to buy an unusual black, orange and mixed Roman glass pendant for myself, in addition to a menorah for a friend and I've got my eye on a beautiful olive wood crèche set whose cave setting is a carved out olive wood log. Extraordinary. The carvings at Kouz's store are detailed, their features delicately rendered. It's such a pleasure to visit there--especially to be sure about quality, e.g., that the 925 stamp represents real silver. If you check out Kouz first, you'll be back. If you check out Kouz later, you'll wish you'd discovered him sooner! Valentine's Day Gifts Pens, Pencils & Markers 2. Proverbs 11:4 en Agape, Cynthia If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing. Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. The protesters became known as Protestants, while those who continued to follow the traditional Church called themselves Roman Catholics. Protestantism (which divided into four types: Lutheran, Calvinist, Anglican and Anabaptist) took root in Northern European countries like Holland, Germany (except Bavaria) and Britain, while Southern European countries like France, Italy and Spain (along with the Spanish colony of Flanders), remained Catholic. This includes a small sharpener, two erasers, a colorless blender, a solvent blender, an ebony pencil, and a pencil extender. It’s usually under $7. Note that color pencil marks can’t be fully erased, so use erasers to lighten marks. The colorless blender allows you to put down one or more colors lightly and then blend them so that the color goes into the little valleys in the paper. The solvent blender dissolves pencil marks so they look like watercolors (see the water on the Psalm 23 picture). Any Medium Once Christianity was legally permitted, its need for religious art increased rapidly. New churches were built as centres of worship, using the architectural design of the basic Roman Basilica (used for civic administration and justice). A typical basilica church had a central nave with one or more aisles on either side and a semi-circular/polygonal apse at one end, covered by a semi-dome or sectional vault; the apse became the presbytery and contained a raised platform, upon which sat the bishop, his priests, and also the altar. Baptisteries were also designed and built for various rites, notably baptism followed by annointing-with-oil, as non-baptized people could not enter the Christian Basilica. Most interior decoration of these new religious buildings was done with mosaics, although mural paintings have also been uncovered. The sculptural decoration of sarcophagi became more intricate, often illustrating numerous scenes from the bible. But almost no sculpture in the round was made, for fear of creating pagan-style idols. Relief sculpture was therefore standard, mostly in stone although ivory carving was another popular medium. Overall, the 4th century witnessed more art, the use of richer materials, and the development of precise narrative sequences, as in the mosaics of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome and the later 5th century churches of Ravenna. In addition, during the 5th century, Christian imagery began to accord greater importance to religious significance than to realism. Thus realistic perspective, proportions, colour and light were downgraded in favour of standardized conventions and symbols, when portraying Biblical figures and events. 0 - items John 4:24 ESV / 2 helpful votes Personalized Notepads LIFE Picture Collection Lapel Pins & Tie Bars BACK TO TOP Spain is the only European state to have emerged from a religious struggle between Christianity and Islam (Muslim rule over most of the Iberian peninsula lasted 718-1492). Not surprisingly therefore, the school of Spanish Painting produced a form of Christian art which was consistent with the country's uncompromising devotion to the Catholic cause. Its greatest exponent was Domenikos Theotokopoulos, called El Greco. After training in Byzantine icon painting he worked in Venice before making his home in Spain. Here he created a series of ecstatic portraits of Christ and the Saints, whose intensity of expression appealed directly to the spiritual feelings of the spectator. These powerful holy paintings, with their elongated figures, distorted perspective and non-natural colour schemes made El Greco the father of Counter-Reformation art in Spain. His most famous Catholic paintings include: The Trinity (1577-9); The Disrobing of Christ (1579); The Burial of Count Orgaz (1586); Christ driving the Traders from the Temple (1600); the Resurrection (1600), and The Opening of the Fifth Seal of the Apocalypse (1608). Although they had none of Caravaggio's naturalism, these pictures were spiritual masterpieces, and thus wholly in line with the doctrinal requirements of the Vatican. 63.138.5 Scripture Art - Philippians 1:6 Chalkboard Style MCDONOUGH AREA Would you please share how the scripture art has made an impact for you?  We will share your stories and thank our 2014 Confirmation students.
